The Segara Village Hotel is one of the bigger resorts on the beachfront in Sanur, Bali. We recently spent a few days staying at the Segara Village, so we decided to write this hotel review for anyone considering staying at this Sanur resort.
Our hotel reviews cover things normal reviews do not. We check out things like, Is the room dark? What’s the air conditioning like? Is the hotel noisy? and all the usual things reviews look at.
Address: Jl. Segara Ayu, Sanur, Denpasar Selatan, Kota Denpasar, Bali 80030, Indonesia
The check-in process was smooth. We were asked to take a seat and offered a cold drink while they sorted our documents that are required at check-in. After that, we were given the keys and a porter accompanied us with our luggage to room 306.
What was the deluxe room at Segara Village like?
We had booked a deluxe room and were surprised when we found single beds and not a queen in our room. To be fair, the staff did offer to change them to a queen, which we declined, as we sleep quite well without each other.
To be honest, we found the room to be a little strange in its layout. As you enter the room, you sort of walk into the bathroom. The room is like a studio, so as soon as you enter you have your toilet and shower to the left-hand side (in the same room) and on the right you have your sink and a wardrobe. You then have the area where your bed or beds are with a TV and a long desk that runs along under the TV.
The beds were comfortable, but a little on the firm side like you find most places in Asia. You get your standard two pillows and small fridge that had drinks in it already. We never drink from the mini bar, it is always more expensive!
The rooms have their own little patio outside with two small but comfortable couches to sit on. The patios are private and are shielded from view by a brick wall. To make the area more appealing, there is a garden and fish pond between your patio and the brick wall. We spent a little bit of time out there watching the birds, the koi fish and the squirrels running around everywhere.
The airconditioning was on point. It was cold and it was quiet. We set it to 18 degrees and just left it on for the 3 days. We found the room to be really nice to sleep in at this temperature and really refreshing when coming in from the daytime heat of Sanur. I love how you walk out of your ice-cold, air-conditioned room in Bali and your sunglasses fog up the moment you walk out the door.
At night, the room was pitch black. The good quality curtains kept everything blacked out even during the day. The resort was really quiet at night, I don’t think we heard anything after 9pm. This place is not a party scene at night.

Getting back to the strange bathroom setup, you walk through your bathroom into your bedroom. The bathroom is ultra clean, which is what you would expect. The shower door opens out and into the area where you enter the room, as does the toilet door.
In the shower itself, there is body wash and shampoo, a makeup face washer, which is black, which I think is something that all places are starting to really embrace now. The little stool to sit on, but if you’re carrying a little bit of weight, you’d really struggle to sit on it and be able to get the water on you, because it’s not a detachable shower head. The water pressure was really good, there is nothing worse weak water pressure in a shower.
The toilet has the standard bum gun, as we like to call them. It’s not as vicious as others that we’ve seen. When we say vicious, we mean the strength of the water it shoots out. The toilet is large and there is plenty of room, unlike what we experienced at Sanur Resort Watujimbar.
If you’re a person who doesn’t shut the toilet door or you have a little bit of claustrophobia, you look straight at yourself in the mirror.

You can get it here:
Mark gets up really, really, really early, and the bed is next to the shower. So, if you or your partner are like us where one sleeps in and one gets up early, you are going to hear the person in the shower. There is a curtain that can separate the areas, but still it does not stop the noise from the shower. This is just the nature of the room setup, there is no real way to avoid it.
As you would expect, the room comes with bathroom condiments, as Mark likes to call them. The toiletries include a sanitary bag, shower cap, two dental kits, and some cotton buds, and they were replaced every single day.
The bottled water comes in reusable glass bottles for you to use for brushing your teeth. The staff at Segara Village come and collect those every day and replace them along with your towels.
What is the accessibility like at Hotel Segara Village?
You find Segara Village very easy to get around for people with mobility issues. In the room we stayed, there were no steps, it’s ramp-like leading to the section of rooms we stayed in. There was ramp access to the breakfast area and onto the Sanur Beach path. The back pool had steps and handrails to use upon entry.
What is the breakfast like at Segara Village?
We are going to put this out there straight up. We have had better breakfasts at resorts and hotels in Sanur that cost less. This is more of a criticism on the variety of food available than the quality of the food.
We found that once you move past the egg station there is probably only 6 food warmers for you to choose from. So for options, the breakfast was lacking in that department.
Like all good resorts, you have your egg station where you can get your scrambled eggs, your omelette, sausages, hash browns your poached eggs, your fried eggs and so on. You will find fresh fruit, salad, yogurt, cereals and more. There is a continental area with cold meats and cheese plus some small sweet treats such as cakes.
@sanureastbali We recently stayed at the Segara Village Hotel in Sanur. Let's take a look at the breakfast that is included with your stay at the hotel.#Sanur #segaravillage #hotelbreakfast #bali #breakfasttime ♬ original sound – Things to do in Sanur
I have to say the bread and pastries were actually a stand out here because they bake on premises. There were plenty of juices. coffee and tea available with breakfast. The coffee came out of an automatic coffee machine, but if you are a coffee lover you could order a barista made coffee at an extra cost.
What are pools like at Segara Village?
This Sanur resort has got three, no four pools. One seems to be cut off because it’s for the private villas that are onsite. You’ve got a really large pool up the front near the Byrdhouse and the bar.
The main pool down the front of the resort, which is near the beach, is the most popular pool at Segara Village. It is surrounded by sunlounges, tables and chairs and umbrellas. You can order drinks and food here and the area always seemed quite busy during the day.
You need to get there early, put your towels out, secure your spot. The pools at the Segara Village are really one of the most outstanding features of the place.
Then you’ve got the little square spa pool that actually has a bar in the middle and someone who can make you cocktails and pour you beers all day while you enjoy the water. Yes, we did indulge in drinks in the spa pool. We sat in the spa pool drank some cocktails. It was quite nice actually as it seemed to be the less popular out of all the pools.
When ordering drinks at the hotel, just be aware they add a fair bit of tax to your drinks. You get a service tax and a government tax on top of it, which can be around 20% or more. So the price is not really the price.
You’ve got a smaller, more secluded pool down the back with sun loungers and umbrellas, that’s covered with trees and shade. This was our favourite pool by far, less crowded and more comfortable.
The Byrd House At Segara
One thing that makes Segara Village really popular is the Byrd House. The Byrd House is like its beach club, bar and it’s where you have breakfast. A lot of people just call in because the architecture is quite stunning. It was made to look like a bird’s nest, hence the name “The Byrd House.”
It’s all sort of made out of, well it looks like bamboo, it looks really good and it’s a real standout on the beachfront here in Sanur.
There is an undercover area, an indoor area, and an open area on the beach. All these areas are staffed and you can order food and drinks at any time. You do not have to be staying at Segara Village to stop for a drink or food at the Byrd House.
This is where you can come and enjoy lunch or dinner any day during your stay at this resort in Sanur. The Byrd House food options are open to the public as well. You will often see people doing a walk in breakfast at Segara.

After returning from exploring Sanur, we sat inside a few times in the air-conditioned room. The banana caramel milkshakes were just amazing. They also do a high tea set that you can order.
Every afternoon here at Sagara, they have like a free mini afternoon tea sort of thing going on with free coffee, tea and some cakes. It is not much but just another little bonus you get staying at this hotel.
Hotel facilities we did not try
We just thought we would mention a couple of things at the hotel that we didn’t try or need to use. There is a kids’ playground and a kids’ club which makes this resort appealing to families coming to Sanur. There is an onsite spa and wellness center that seemed busy all the time, a tennis court and ice baths can be used.
What is the location of Segara Village Sanur like?
You will find Segara Village located on Jl. Segara Ayu. However, you will only enter and leave by this address if you’re using transport such as a driver or taxi. Once you’re onsite and checked into this Sanur hotel, you will most likely come and go via the front entrance which leads straight onto the beach path.
- Segara Village Resort is 400 meters from Icon Sanur.
- Segara Village Hotel to Artasendana 1.9 kilometers.
- Segara Village Hotel Bali to Sanur Night Market 650 meters.
What did we really think of Segara Village Hotel Sanur?
I must say, we enjoyed our three-night stay here. It’s very lush, green, Balinese, or they’re trying to make it as Balinese as possible with lots of palm trees and statues around. Segarra Village is aesthetically pleasing and gives off a quintessential Balinese feel, and you know that’s what a lot of people obviously come here for.
The room was certainly good enough. I think I paid about $160 a night here. The air con worked well, the room was really clean and the nightly bed turn down service made you feel a little bit special in all honesty.

I guess a really good location right on the beach. Icon Mall’s just up the road., and bars and restaurants on either side. Tootsie’s Beach bar has got good 55k cocktails every night about 20 meters from here.
I think that’s a really good option if you like the big resort type places, I reckon. We’ve stayed at a couple of different resorts now and we found probably the Prama Beach Resort was the one that was the friendliest. There were more sort of people who wanted to chat at the pool bar and everything.
This one, not so much. I think there’s a correlation between how much you spend on a hotel and how friendly people are at a hotel. So the more you spend, the less friendly people are.
In our view, the breakfast was disappointing. They had an egg station like all places do, doing eggs, and next to that were some baked beans, sausages, bacon, pork bacon. But other than that, a little bit up further, there were probably only food warmers with the Indonesian food. Other than that, it was really just pastries and fruit and some cold meats and cheeses.
We were expecting more because we’ve stayed in cheaper places in Bali with a better breakfast. As we said above, it is not about the food quality, just the variety.
Every day, we swam in the back pool, which was quite nice and quite shaded. The pool towel mafia were out early everyday trying to secure a sunlounger. If that’s your thing, we suggest you go and lay a towel down before 9am.

Overall, we have enjoyed our stay here. Would we come back here? Yeah, I probably would. No doubt I would come back here. So yeah, definitely a good choice if you like large resort-style complexes where you can swim here, eat here, drink here and never really leave if you do not want to.
Segara Village is definitely a winner.
